Visiting the RDW

Bee on flowerYou can access the Russia Dock Woodland and Stave Hill Park from all around Rotherhithe.  Routes around the park are well signposted and there are maps at most entrances. Please see the maps below (click on small images to see larger images on a new page - just click on the Back button on your browser to return to this page).  If you are arriving by bus you will need the 381 or the C10.

Russia Dock Woodland and Stave Hill Ecological Park are managed by different teams, but they join seamlessly from the visitor’s point of view.  Whereas most of the walks through Russia Dock Woodland are paved and suitable for most types of access, some of the trails through Stave Hill are small unpaved tracks through grassland and woodland. It is a very effective mixture and offers visitors many fascinating nooks and crannies to explore.

The Russia Dock Woodland has been laid out to support wheelchair and pushchair access.  Bicycles are welcome, but motorcycles are not permitted.  Some of the trails through Stave Hill Ecological Park are not suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, but there are plenty of areas to explore which don’t require you to take these trails.  There is plenty of seating around the Woodland, including picnic tables on the main greens next to Watermans Walk.

Barbeques are not permitted for fire risk reasons, but picnics are more than welcome.  There are many waste bins around the area to dispose of your picnic rubbish.  Dogs are welcome, but please clean up after them for the benefit of other visitors.  Special disposal bins are located throughout the Woodland and Stave Hill.

The park is a safe area used extensively by the local community.  To ensure that it remains safe CCTV cameras have been put in place and Park Wardens patrol the area.
