Welcome, and thanks for visiting us
The Friends of Russia Dock Woodland (RDW) are a group of residents who help to protect and enhance the woodland and the Stave Hill ecological park, which together run through the middle of the Rotherhithe peninsula. We address everything from damaged signage and rubbish management to development planning applications which impact the local ecology. We are on good terms with other local groups (details of whom can be found on the Other Local Groups page), and we have frequent dialogue with Southwark Council about the management of the Woodland area. We are proud of our oasis in this busy corner of London. It supports a huge variety of plant, animal and bird life, some of it rare. It is used and enjoyed by local residents of all ages, many of whom are very active in promoting its interests and are partly responsible for its ongoing improvements. You can find out more about our ongoing activities on the Local News page. Details of planning applications for the Downtown area of Rotherhithe can be found on the Downtown Defence page, and links to other sites are shown on the Other Local Groups and Websites and the Rotherhithe in Photos pages. An record of previous Friends meetings may be of interest to newcomers, or for reference about previous agreements and actions, and this is held on the Archives page. For a short history of Rotherhithe, see the following page Southwark Council’s website: Membership of the Friends is free of charge and is open to everyone. The best way of staying in touch with our activities is to join our email forum which acts as a central information distribution service and will keep you up to date with day to day topics. This website is going to be revamped in the next month or so - if you have any ideas for its new incarnation please let me know (andie@excite.co.uk).
